| The Colonial is a superbly conditioned, traditional layout in an unspoiled natural setting. The course winds through hardwood forests and tidal marshes, completely devoid of real estate development. The picturesque holes are framed by native laurel and other indigenous species. There's not a condo or residence in sight...just delicious solitude. Five sets of tees (4568 to 6809 yards) accommodate players of all skill levels. The course has received significant recognition from national publications, including a GOLF DIGEST "Top 10 Virginia Public Course" ranking, and a "Top 10 New Courses in the U.S." salute from GOLF MAGAZINE. VIRGINIA FAIRWAYS rated The Colonial the #2 Public Course in Virginia.
The Colonial offers the only year-round Golf Academy in the state. Featured are a large grass-teed practice range, an indoor teaching facility with video analysis, and a practice course with 3 regulation length holes (a par 3, 4, and 5). The Colonial is also the home of "The Abyss"-one of the area's most dramatic and renowned Par 3's. A long carry over tidal wetlands to a shallow sloping green is an inviting challenge for every player. For those who do not conquer "The Abyss," there is a "Cussin' Box" at the green, with donations going to charity. A large, well appointed clubhouse and full service restaurant on the premises assures the success of tournaments, corporate outings, and other special events.
